2024 Proposed AAUW PA Bylaws Amendments

Bylaws voting is now open!! Make your voice heard. The link to the ballot should be in your email.

Thanks to member input, the AAUW PA bylaws proposals have been finalized and posted. Only a few changes were introduced since the initial posting, but they are good ones.

The AAUW PA Board of Directors and the PA Bylaws Committee recommend approval of the proposed bylaw amendments.

Please review these final, revised proposed bylaw amendments and the final, revised list of changes with rationales in support of them.

Then, please VOTE!

The proposed amendments are intended to improve our organization. Among other things, they

  • fix the quorum for the annual meeting (which currently is not a quorum but a requirement for passing a motion),
  • make our wording more inclusive (e.g., not restricting membership in AAUW PA to PA residents),
  • align with national policies (e.g., national members are no longer called members-at-large, and memberships are no longer all renewed on June 30),
  • provide greater flexibility in process (e.g., giving the board the power to change processes, such as establishing the methods or time period for notifying members of something important, etc.),
  • clarify wording, and
  • clean up small errors (e.g., typos, punctuation, etc.) in our organization’s bylaws.

Note: We cannot change anything in Articles I-VII. We know there are errors there, but we can’t do anything about them—all wording there is mandated.

Vote beginning Wednesday, April 3. Voting on the bylaws proposals ends at midnight, Tuesday, April 30. Check your email for the ballot link. If you have any questions, please contact Deb Roney, Bylaws Chair.

Results will be announced at the annual meeting on Saturday, May 4.
