Enclosed with this letter, delivered to your home office in (city), PA, is a copy of a petition signed by twenty individuals in (city) who urge you to sponsor or support pay equity legislation for Pennsylvania.
On April 14, 2015 branches across Pennsylvania, including (name your branch (es)), AAUW Student Affiliates of (name College/University) and members of other local organizations and institutions (name) are conducting a series of Pay Equity events to promote increased community awareness of pay fairness issues and to encourage legislative action in Pennsylvania as well as in Washington, D. C. This hand-delivered, single sheet is one of the many that have been, and will continue to be, circulated on this day.
We believe these signatures serve as a timely and powerful reminder of the importance of action this year on Paycheck Fairness: voters believe such action is essential to moving towards guaranteeing that women with equal qualifications are treated as equals to men when performing the same jobs.
During this time when America’s economy is not yet fully recovered, every penny counts! Among issues identified as very important to women, 90 percent say equal pay for equal work is a priority. Shortly after the conclusion of our events on Equal Pay Day, April 14th, we will send to your Washington D. C. office the entire set of petitions to once again call to your attention the significance of this issue for many of your constituents.
We urge you to make this a priority in the Senate today!
